Project Description

Participatory needs assessment, roundtable convening and multistakeholder workshop to define a gender-just and equitable response to climate change in garment supply chains in Bangladesh

Consiglieri conducted a participatory needs assessment using design thinking methodologies to capture garment factories’ (especially women workers’) experience and understanding of the multidimensional risks and reality of climate change as well as their suggestions for priority solutions. Consiglieri used HCD based methods and tools to interview 83 women and 34 men garment workers, focusing on disaster-prone areas, including 3 interviews with factory representatives to understand the multidimensional risks and impact of climate change on the daily life of the workers. A roundtable discussion with women’s rights organizations was conducted to refine the actionable recommendations in proposing solutions to the impacts of climate change, keeping gender-just transition in mind. At the end of the research, a multistakeholder workshop was facilitated in Dhaka with the participation of BGMEA, BKMEA, suppliers, brands, donors, women’s rights organizations, worker unions, and workers to validate the findings as well as to finalize the roadmap towards a gender-just climate change adaptation and mitigation plan.
