Project Description

Conduct Plastic Waste Informal Sector Analysis in 3 Cities including Market Value Chain Analysis

This study intended to generate actionable insights into the gendered dynamics of the plastic waste value chain, identify barriers to formalization, and map stakeholder roles, including LGIs, SMEs, and informal workers in Chattogram City Corporation, Cox’s Bazar Municipality, and Tangail Municipality. Ultimately, the study supported the development of targeted interventions to transform plastic waste ecosystems and identify circular solutions. The study approaches included ILO’s Sectoral Diagnosis of Informality, Social Inclusion lens, HCD, COM-B, and ILO Decent Work components. It was a mixed method study including a survey with 323 waste workers (formal and informal), 415 households, and 76 market actors in the value chain. The qualitative data collection included 33 KIIs, 6 FGDs, 8 IDIs, and 18 observations.
