Conducting Local Impact Assessment for Waste to Worth
The “Local Impact Assessment for Waste to Worth” is a mixed-methods study examining the Polypropylene (PP) plastic recycling value chain in Dhaka, Narayanganj, and Munshiganj. The study seeks to generate critical baseline evidence (Phase A) to guide the design of a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and shape a socially responsible circular economy model (Phase B). Its scope includes comprehensive value chain mapping, a stakeholder analysis, and an in-depth assessment of informal waste workers’ labor conditions, wages, and access to social protection. Adopting a strongly gender-responsive lens, the study will collect sex-disaggregated data to uncover systemic and gendered barriers within the value chain. Data collection combines a quantitative survey (n=240) across three categories of waste workers with qualitative 51 KIIs and 8 FGDs, supported by KOBO Toolbox for digital data capture. The final output will be a validation into an Action Plan recommending targeted interventions to improve labor standards, enhance traceability, and align practices with the ILO Decent Work Framework.
